Principles of Education and Training

This course introduces you to careers in Education and Training, including those listed on this site. You will explore the knowledge and skills needed for these careers and learn how to practice and build those skills. You will also develop a graduation plan to lead to a career of your choice.


This course is one credit and open to students in any grade.

Human Growth and Development

This course explores how children and adults develop as they grow. You will learn about the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional milestones of each age group. Ask your counselor or Education and Training teacher for more information.


This course is one credit and open to students in any grade.

Instructional Practices

This course is an opportunity to practice effective teaching and training techniques. You will learn about child development and how to plan and direct instruction. You will also spend time with a mentor teacher to help students learn in a real classroom.


This course is two credits and recommended for juniors and seniors. Your school may be able to offer this as dual credit.

Practicum in Education and Training

This advanced course focuses on training in a field-site classroom with a mentor teacher as an internship experience. You will learn about child development and how to plan and direct instruction at an advanced level. You will also work with an exemplary teacher and apply your skills by designing lessons and supporting student learning in the classroom.


This course can be two or three credits, and you can take it more than once if you have different internship experiences each year. It is recommended for juniors and seniors. Your school may be able to offer this as dual credit.
